Sermon?Maybe next time It seems incredible now to think of music so great as this as part of any church service, let alone your own. But so it must have been for some (unwittingly blessed) Leipzig churchgoers. And there, in the middle of this monument, between Parts I and II, would have been a (probably long) sermon. How now, so many years later, can the drive for authentic performance practice that has so enriched our appreciation of Bach and all those on whose shoulders he stands, come to terms with this sermon, and with the faith that framed it so wonderfully |
