1   This new basement bathroom (of which you see here only the outside wall facing the rec room) was spacious enough to put in a hot tub. But its most interesting feature is the octagonal, glass block shower that straddles the wall between bathroom and recroom. Thanks to my mason, Gary Prinsen, for laying the blocks.

This picture has been on my old web site for a decade already and the page that showed it was always the most popular of all, with oodles of references from google searches of "glass block showers". Unfortunately (fortunately?) this has not resulted in any requests to make another.

7   Because of the wall register and the limited space we were happy to find this elegant and shallow sink from Rona. But the sink needed support and a way to hide the plumbing without going to the floor so I designed and built this curved cabinet out of MDF and snake ply. The faucet is from Ikea.

8   My only recourse to overcoming this cramped space was to go up. Practically speaking it has made no difference. Psychologically, though, it is a remarkable improvement. Pushing the walls back over the ceiling on both sides is a key to this effect.
